Welcome to YASB!

As you may have noticed in the title, this introductory post is meant to be a quick heads-up on just what exactly YASB is about and who’s writing here.

Currently, I’m the lone writer on this blog, but hoping to have other writers join in on the fun. The prevailing theme on this blog will be, as the name suggests, the Symfony framework. Symfony started out as a fork of the Mojavi framework, developed in-house by Sensio, a French-based web agency.

The main focus of Symfony is to ease the tediousness of web application programming by providing a shake-and-bake solution in the form of an MVC architecture, which is flexible, organized and easy to use, even for people starting out with object- and pattern-driven PHP. The framework takes best-practice design and architecture patterns and applies them to the application structure, enabling the programmer to focus on what is important – the underlying business logic.

It borrows concepts from numerous other framework solutions and embraces good patterns, such as Rails’ approach of generating a directory structure and database models. On top of it all, it is flexible enough to enable anyone to customize the directory structure to suit any given constraints.

But not to get ahead of myself, I’ll wrap up this introductory post and invite you to check in on us (well, me) and tips and tricks involving the wonderful framework that is Symfony.

Have fun!
